Taiping International Marathon 2012

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you’d expect me to write a lot about the just concluded Taiping International Marathon 2012. I’ll try to make it as short as possible though.

First, the race-pack collection.

The race pack collection as stated on the website was to take place at an MPT Hall. I didn’t know that a field is also called as ‘hall’ in Taiping. It was so hot there there was no way I could stay there longer than necessary.

But then, it wasn’t easy NOT to stay there longer than I probably wanted to when the race pack collection was so messy and disorganized. There were no queues and participants of all categories had to pool around a very small counter to check their names on the paper list (or rather a few paper lists). Continue reading

A Weekend Dash-away to Fraser Hill

Another weekend didn’t just slip by without me doing something quite out of the ordinary. This time, I went to Fraser Hill to do a little bit of trekking, something that I’ve been quite crazy about doing since – well – not so lately. As one of those names that I kept hearing about when I was still a school kid, I had always wanted to go there, together with the likes of Penang Hill (checked!), Cameron Highland (checked!) and Langkawi (probably soon).

My imagination of Fraser Hill had always been that it was located somewhere in Johor and it had remained so until I checked it out on google map and found out that it was actually in Pahang. So, off to Pahang we went. Continue reading

Beef Cooked with Ants, Anyone?

I did hear about it but never really thought of ever seeing it, let alone tasting it, probably not in this life.

Until.

I went to Siem Reap.

I was told by Melissa the owner of Siem Reap Rooms Guesthouse where exactly to find it. Apparently, it was very near to the centre of town. In fact, it was very near to the guesthouse itself.

It is a place where many of the locals but less of the tourists would go to, probably because the foods are too exotic for them. May be.

With a head held high, I ordered for a dish. Beef Cooked with Ants as it was described. Of course it had its own name in Khmer but there was no way I could ever remember it. Continue reading

Truly A Sabahan Traveler

I’d say he’s truly a Sabahan traveler. Last time I checked, the picture of this uncle donning a traditional Kadazan costume at the Great Wall of China has garnered 2,256 likes and 89 shares (and definitely counting).

Tahniah angkol!

I wonder if I’d get as many likes and shares if I wore the traditional costume to say, the Pyramids in Egypt or probably the Statue of Liberty in New York. Continue reading

Singapore ZOO : The Best Zoo in The World ?

Well, with all the hypes about Singapore Zoo, I was more than happy when our Singaporean friend (or rather, a Malaysian working in Singapore) offered to give us free tickets to what is considered the best zoo in the world.

.

It was actually my second visit there with the first one was merely to the Night Safari. The Night Safari didn’t really make a good impression on me that I actually regretted dishing out some SGD35 just so see shadows moving in the dark. Continue reading
