Hello PHNOM PENH!

Ian Wright wrote in the Globe Trekker’s website that of all the places that he had been to as a host for the  popular travel TV series, his favorite place is Phnom Penh the capital city of Cambodia. Samantha Brown, the host of Passport to Europe and later Samantha Brown’s Asia had openly declared in her blog that Cambodia  is her favorite country in Asia as well. So, coming from two people who have probably scaled every nook and corner of the world, there has to be something so special about Cambodia that makes it stand out at least in their eyes.

“Just like parents who “equally” love all their children, as a traveler I don’t like to admit that I have a favorite, but I do. Out of the eight countries visited in the Asia series, Cambodia was my favorite. I knew from the beginning that this was a different place”

Elephant’s Sperm in Kelantan

I really like Kelantan. Despite being the most Islamic state in Malaysia (95% Muslims), Islam hasn’t really vanquished some of the older beliefs among the people- apparently – so it’s quite common that you’d see somebody drawing a big crowd of people by selling stuffs with so-called medicinal substances, usually embellished with all kinds of make-believe stories, usually superstitious theories and all.

Tour of Duty: Kota Bharu

So, if you’ve been following me on Twitter, you would have known that I’ve just returned from the far north of Peninsular Malaysia, in a town called Kota Bharu, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Kelantan.

It would be my first time in Kelantan so you know how it is always exciting to come to a new place for the first time. Getting to Kota Bharu had proved to be not an easy task as I had to go through an 8-hours long drive, probably the longest road trip that I had even been on in the Malaysian Peninsular thus far.
