The Scenic Views at Jaigarh Fort

SO – I woke up on my second day in Jaipur with such a renewed energy and excitement. It was such an amazing experience to see the sun cast its shines upon the expansive city of Jaipur at the beginning of the day. I usually come out into the street in the wee hour to see how the locals come about their daily routine in the morning but here in Jaipur, I didn’t really see the necessity of it.In fact, standing on the rooftop of Bombay Hotel was good enough to let me see a great deal of things in and around the neighborhood. JAIPUR – The Pink City

Jaipur had always been exciting from the very first moment we set foot over there. Never mind the hassle of finding a hotel among hotels in the first couple of hours or so, Jaipur really surprised me with a lot of things that I had never expected of seeing and experiencing.

Just across the room from our hotel is a barber shop. Wait a minute. Calling it a barber shop doesn’t even feel right. If there is such thing as barber stall, it should be it. Little might it be, but it brings a broader definition to a HAIRCUT. LOL. Continue reading

How I Under-Estimated Broga Hill

So – after putting the plan on hold for such a long long time, I finally managed to put all the usually lame excuses aside and made my way to the peak of Broga Hill last Sunday.

Going There

Despite being one of the top weekend destinations at least among adventure seekers  here in KL, I was quite surprised it is not clearly pegged on the google map yet, a map that I had been relying on quite too much in recent times. Broga IS in the map, but Broga Hill is not. I hope somebody is going to put a mark to it soon – once and for all. 😀

So, having heard so much about the magical moment of watching the sunrise from the peak of Broga Hill, we set out into the road at 4.30am when everybody in the neighborhood was still asleep. Following the instructions given by the built-in GPS on my brand new Samsung Galaxy S2 (ehem!), we drove off towards Semenyih – or rather one of its sub-districts or villages or whatever you call it called Broga – hoping to find the starting point of the trail to Broga Hill somehow. Hello JAIPUR!

Being literally unknown to me at least until I came to India, Jaipur turned out to be such a pleasant surprise. IT had really taught me how there was much more of India then just a land of over sized mausoleums and centuries-old palaces and probably expansive slum areas as portrayed in the Slum Dog Millionaire.

So – After staying overnight in Agra, it was time to bid farewell to the beautiful Taj Mahal. It felt so good to finally tick something off the list of Seven Wonders of The World. 🙂 Continue reading

Obsolete Currency

Imagine landing at the airport of a foreign land and upon clearing everything at the airport terminal you’ll go and catch at taxi with your head held high and ask to be sent to your hotel. Then upon arriving at the hotel, you’ll look at the taxi meter and chuckled a little because you expected it to be much more expensive than it turns out to be. Then you’ll take the appropriate amount of money from your wallet and even make sure you chuck out a few extra dollars to be given as tips to such a kind and polite taxi driver. Then he’ll look at the money in your hand and you’ll look at his face, expecting a spate of THANK YOUs for the tips that you are kindheartedly offering. Instead you’ll see his smiley face turns into a frown and that’s when you sense something is not right. Continue reading
