Warung Beta, Ubud, Bali

Warung Beta is a food stall located in the less-traveled west part of Ubud. It offers you the breath-taking beauty of Ubud countryside at a very close proximity to an expansive paddy field.

.

My travel partner Ulai was overjoyed when we got there. I just watched helplessly as she dashed right across the paddy field, much to the amusement of the people around us.

.

Even to get to the toilet requires you to walk a little bit across the paddy field. Surrounded by beautiful paddy, it was without doubt one of the most picturesque toilets I’ve ever seen.

.

Ulai wasn’t really happy about the idea of taking a picture with a toilet in the back ground but then with a beautiful view like this, who cares about the damn toilet right? 😀

And I tell you – the smell of air when you’re in the middle of a paddy field in Ubud is just so refreshing and probably – don’t mind my exaggerated term – rejuvenating? Hehe. Yeah, rejuvenating. I call it the smell of countryside. It is the kind of smell that I’d long to inhale every time I’m forced to walk in the suffocating air of the Kuala Lumpur. I was just a perfect place to do a little bit of meditation. Heh.

.

And that smell of countryside – together with the green and beautiful surrounding – and a cup of hot Kopi Bali to sip over – it was when PERFECTION is defined at its best.

We could see the farmers preparing to go home after a day of hard labor and some of them herding their bibiks (ducks) back to the barn. They must be hundreds and hundreds of them all quacking at the same time sending a pandemonium of noises across the paddy field. It really was so fun to watch.

.

I wish we could stay there longer but then any good thing has to come to an end, whether you like it or not.

We returned to Jati Home Stay and Gallery to get prepared for dinner. It would be our last dinner in Ubud so we wanted to make it a little bit special. Special indeed, there couldn’t be any other place to make it more special than this place called Bunute. All in next post.

The Blanco Renaissance Museum, Ubud, Bali

The Blanco Renaissance Museum was one of the places that I visited when I was in Bali. Perched atop a hill and surrounded by lush green and beautiful garden, it actually looked more like a palace than a museum to me. Rp 50,000 for an entrance fee is probably a bit expensive by Bali standard but believe me, it’s worth every rupiah.

Instead of giving you a ticket, they’d tuck a flower behind your ear so that you’d get the feel of being a real Balinese girl or something (Awwwww!). With a flower neatly tucked behind my ear – and together with the pink-ewww-ness that I had on – I was ready to give my balls away. A cute Balinese girl was at the gate to welcome us with a refreshing drink. I felt so welcomed. Continue reading

Bunute Bar & Restaurant, Ubud, Bali

Located just round the corner off the Hanoman Street, Bunute is probably one of the best places to spend a relaxing evening in Ubud. Spare your disco time and head-banging sessions for Kuta, Ubud is more like a place where people would just sit down and probably have some beer and chat with other travelers while listening to (or rather watching)a  live band.

.

My idea of relaxing every time I go traveling is a combination of good beer for my throat, OPEN AIR for my nose and lungs and good music preferably live band performances for my ear and soul. Bunute seem to have them all. Continue reading

Joy-riding to Goa Gajah & Tegalalang Terraced Paddy Field in Bali

IT would be our 3rd day in Bali. We had covered quite a number of places but there were still a few places in and around Ubud that we wanted to check out.

Somebody had been challenging me to go PINK and I just felt that Bali was the perfect place to take that challenge ONCE AND FOR ALL. Continue reading

Flying with Firefly

Calling out to all budget travelers out there, traveling in Malaysia is not all about Malaysia Airlines or Air Asia anymore. There is this (relatively) new airline that provides short haul domestic flights at highly affordable rates. It’s called – Firefly.Firefly provides odd routes – some of them are probably unheard of before such as Johor Bahru to Kota Kinabalu or Kuantan to Penang just to name a few. Continue reading
